The Marketing of Politics
If you’re a student of marketing, you’ll appreciate what both sides are doing these days in the marketing of politicians.
I just finished listening to an interview between two direct marketing guys, one of which I know through having purchased his materials (but, in no other way), and the other, never heard of him before, but I am sure he’s a smart fella.
The explored some of the interesting tactics both parties used this last election to try and get their candidate elected, which really, means generally, who can raise the most amount of fungolas in the shortest period of time.
If you’re reading this blog, I’ll assume you have an interest in what the big boys that have few rules (including being honest/truthful in their campaigns) are doing to extract as much money as possible from constituents.
To see it in action, like you would with any astute direct marketer, get on their list.
You can join the RNC’s (Republican National Committee) list here.
You can join the DNC’s (Democratic National Committee) list, here.
As soon as you join, note the number of emails, who’s writing them, the frequency, if you are solicited by follow-up emails for money, for your physical mailing address, if the appeals are emotional or “factual” in nature, and so on.
Take note. Some of the highest paid copywriters in the country are writing this stuff to extract major donations from a public that is disenchanted with ALL politicians, not just one party or both, but anyone associated with it.
Having worked in Washington, DC for almost 2 years, for a US Senator, the Commerce Dept (Specifically, the NAFTA office), and the Dept of Agriculture, I can tell you firsthand, I know WHY voters are and they have a right to be, but ONLY if they participate in the process to improve it, do we/they have a right to complain.
And, if you’re in business, an entrepreneur, especially if you’re a Business Anarchist, you’ve GOT to be involved in politics because there are people making decisions all the time that affect, one way or another, your future. Shouldn’t you contribute to the process?
Get on their lists. Get a great education in marketing and get fired up about your country.
