Go to College, Go in Debt, Get a JOB…Bullshit.
To say I’m pissed is an understatement.
We’re sending the wrong message to kids, to parents.
Every child in America ought to receive a financial education, similar to Rober Kiyosaki’s thoughts on this not in high school, but in grade school, middle school and THEN again in high school. And, if you go to college, you should have to take a course on PERSONAL finance and understand how to use an HP financial calculator and you should have to take a pre-college course on how you’re going to pay back your student loans BEFORE buying a fancy new car!
The message we’re sending NOW to our young kids is: go to college, you’ll HAVE to go in debt to pay for it and then, get a Jay Oh Be you’ll hate! Wrong message.
I just finished a book an old timer wrote on an investment strategy that’s sound, works, makes money and uses the principles all kids should know before they’re allowed to graduate and certainly before they are allowed to BORROW MONEY.
At the end of his book, he says, “I’d rather be dumb and rich than ’smart’ and broke. It seems I know more smart broke people than rich smart or rich dumb people.”
Think about it. How many “rich” people do you know that are, at times you wonder, how they even tie their shoes.
Frankly, I agree with him. I’ve been rich. I’ve been broke. I like rich better, and it’s amazing how little intelligence it takes to get there, and how much smarts it takes to lose it all!
