I have to laugh. No, I almost cried. My wife talked me into going to Great Wolf Lodge. It’s located in Grand Mound (Centralia), Washington smack between Portland and Seattle.
I applaud the owners for thinking outside the box on location and I am sure they did their demographic homework prior to developing this 8-story hotel and 60,000+ sq ft water park.
I don’t think the owners of GWL did a lick of work though in checking to see just how deep the labor pool is in Centralia.
If you’re developing and depending on a long-term income stream to pay your investors or yourself back, better check the depth of the pool of labor…In this case, I think it’s lacking. No, I KNOW it’s lacking.
I do however, think that if you have kids and you’re prepared to drop some Disney-type cash on an overnight adventure, check ‘em out. BUT, don’t do what I did and compare it to Disney. It’s not. And, at Disney, your chances of seeing a 42-year old guy with beer gut Dunlapped over his Speedo held up by logging suspenders are ‘nil.
At GWL in Grand Mound, it’s practically guaranteed!
